Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide and instill in students a basic overview and set of primary knowledge about the field of archival science, its mission, meaning and place in the system of social and historical sciences, by combining the form of monological explanation (lecture) and dialogical methods (interview, discussion, brainstorming). The starting point is an explanation of the historical roots, basic concepts and methodological postulates of contemporary scientific archival science. This explanation is followed by a set of information about the current practical functioning of Czech archival science, presented in an appropriate transnational (European, world) context. The result of teaching in the course should be knowledge of basic professional terms, understanding of the meaning of archives and archival science, orientation in the structure of primarily Czech archival science and basic awareness of the work (activity) of an archivist and its meaning.
The student will gain an orientation in the issues of archival science. He/she will be able to orientate himself/herself in its current organization in the Czech Republic. He/she will be familiar with the forms and frameworks of archival material use, as well as a number of other related topics.
