Learning outcomes
The history of administration covered in the course familiarizes students with the organization of public administration in the Czech state from the Middle Ages to the present day, discussing not only political administration, but also municipal, ecclesiastical, and feudal administration. The explanation of public administration institutions is linked to information about the preservation and storage of their written records as an important factor not only for understanding their organization and actual functioning, but also for the methodical conduct of historical studies in general. The last part of the course will focus on the most recent period of administrative history after the establishment of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918. The history of administration in our territory underwent several changes during this period. The first was the separation of the border regions, which were partly administered independently and partly annexed to neighboring German districts, and the related changes in the truncated remnant state. Further changes in state administration came immediately in 1945 and then, above all, a series of rapid reforms in the 1950s. The last stage of the form of administration in our territory ended with the changes that took place in 1989/1990 and 1993, followed by partial changes in subsequent years.
The student is able to present the basic features of the development of public administration from 1918 to the present. They have a command of knowledge in the areas of constitutional development, political administration, and self-government. They are able to clearly present the issues of state administration in the individual phases of administrative development and are able to list and justify the basic administrative milestones of our development. They are able to describe well the functioning of administration during the socialist period, as well as after 1989 to the present.
