Learning outcomes
The aim of course is to focus on the issue of transferring documents to archives and their subsequent handling (recording, organizing). The course also covers methods of processing archival materials, which have recently been determined primarily by several international standards for processing such materials in memory institutions. Students are also familiarized with the current state of archiving in Europe and around the world, where similar problems and challenges to those in the Czech Republic are often encountered. The next stage in working with archival materials is their use and presentation. Attention is also paid to basic issues related to the technical aspects of caring for archival materials and their proper storage in archival repositories. Students also receive information about the development of archival education around the world and in the Czech Republic.
The student is able to describe the basic stages of archival work. The student has mastered knowledge in the field of pre-archival care and disposal management, including the evaluation of archival materials during selection. The student is able to characterize the principles of processing and organizing archival materials, especially with regard to the new Basic Rules. They are also able to provide an overview of international standards for organizing archival materials. The student also has a command of the basic characteristics of foreign archiving, protection, and conservation of archival materials, as well as the development of archival education.

The credit for the material covered in this semester will take the form of a written test. The exam will test this knowledge comprehensively after the end of the two-semester cycle.
