Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide students with a comprehensive overview of the complex theoretical and methodological basis of records management, key concepts, basic methods, current problems and issues, and major trends in the field of document management and records management, and by extension, archiving as a whole, taking into account the fact that archival care for records already stored in archives cannot be separated from the management of "live" documents by the creators of the documents. For this reason, the subject covers both the area of archival care of "historical" documents and the sphere of management of currently created documents, records management, and so-called pre-archival care, especially for public originators. Last but not least, the subject will also touch on the area of electronic documents and electronic document management. It will introduce the principles of electronic file management and the integration of electronic documents into everyday office work, and thus also document management. Emphasis will be placed on the basic legal framework and set of legislative requirements relating to document management and file management. Students will be introduced to other important legislative regulations, including European standards (eIDAS, GDPR, and others).
Students will gain an overview of the basic activities in the field of records management and document administration. They will be able to perform all basic tasks carried out within the framework of records management in public administration and the private sector. They will be able to apply the basic methods used in records management in public and private organizations. They will be able to perform basic steps in document management from their creation or receipt, through registration, distribution, and circulation of documents within the organization, to their processing, closure, and preparation for disposal. They will be able to cooperate with the relevant archive in the process of discarding documents and transferring selected parts for permanent storage in the archive.
