Course content
The concept of lingua franca. English as a global language. Some popular acronyms in the field of language teaching. The concept of communicative competence. Constituents of the communicative competence. The subject matter of language teaching. EFL versus ESL context and implications for teaching. NNEST and NEST. Basic theories of the first language acquisition. Affective domain and its contribution to language teaching. Some basic concepts of the classroom management.

Learning outcomes
The course in question will help students to have a better understanding of the language learning process. It will deal with core concepts in language acquisitions as well as with some basic underlying concepts of EFL didactics. It will also outline the historical development of foreign language teaching. The course will include interactive lectures and seminars.
Course objectives. By the end of the course, students in this class are expected to: 1. Understand and make practical use of the basic terminology used in EFL teaching. 2. Understand the difference between EFL and ESL contexts and its impact on the teacher's behavior in an interactive language classroom. 3. Understand the principles leading to successful classroom management. 4. Understand and be able to use different procedures for classroom interaction.
