Course content
|
Children learning a foreign language: synchronic and diachronic overview. Age and First/Second Language Acquisition. Characteristics of young language learners. Class management and atmosphere. Elements of dramatization. Teaching vocabulary and grammar to young learners: problems and solutions. Beginning oral communication. Teaching pronunciation. Developing listening skills and comprehension. Teaching reading to young learners. Rhymes and songs in teaching EFL to young learners.

Learning outcomes
|
The course is aimed at discussing theoretical and practical issues of EFL teaching to young learners. During the course we will try to learn what teachers should know in order to adapt their styles of teaching to the needs of young learners. The course will include interactive lectures and seminars.
By the end of the course, students in this class are expected to: - to organize oral work with different groups of young learners; - to presents new vocabulary and grammar taking in consideration peculiarities of young learners' development; - to select and adapt language teaching material appropriate for the target group
