Learning outcomes
|
Aim: Students get acquainted with the character of children ´s literature written in English and learn how to understand the specific character of literature for children. This course develops students´ knowledge of literary terminology studied in the subject Introduction to Studying Literature. A series of 14 lectures will focus on the most significant authors writing for children and young people and their works, on typical genres of children's literature and characteristic types of heroes in literature for children. The main aim of the introductory part of this subject is critical analysis of shorter literary texts - fairy tales, legends, poems, etc. - and development of language and interpretative skills in students. The work in seminars will also concentrate on how to make use of children?s literature in the ELT classroom.
By the end of the course, students will: - have gained an overview of children's literature written in English from its origins to its current situation - have learned the basics of literary interpretation - have improved their vocabulary along with their ability to critically analyze literary texts.
