The subject informs about linguistic branches and compares the mother tongue with a foreign language aquisition. It is also a subject dealing with language in its full social context. The course is conected with e-learning material available online at https://moodle.pf.ujep.cz/

Learning outcomes
|
Acquaint the students with the complexity of the language system and describe different methods of analysis. Introduce the most important language families and branches. Explain the difference between language learning and language acquisition.
Students gain knowledge and skills in linguistic disciplines, text analysis and are able to use linguistic terminology (with proper understanding and definitions).

The student shows motivation for linguistics.
