The course is primarily for students dealing with modelling of polymeric systems as a part of student?s PhD theses. The course deepens and advances student?s knowledge and skills in polymer physics as follows: - Types of polymeric substances and their generic properties. History of polymer science. - Single chain conformations. Ideal and real chains. Conformational characteristics. A single chain in good and poor solvents. Effects of temperature on single chain conformations. - Polymer blends and solutions. Thermodynamics of polymeric systems. Thermodynamics of mixing. Polymers in good and poor solvents. Phase diagrams. - Dynamics of polymeric systems. Unentangled polymer dynamics (Rouse model, Zimm model). Entangled polymer dynamics. - Self-assembled polymeric microstructures. Self-assembly in copolymer melts and solutions. Micellar and lamellar self-assembled microstructures.
