Course content
1. Introduction: the value of animals and the plants 2. The hunter-gatherer archaic society, ritualized and representative form of hunting, hunting as a privilege, degradation of hunting. Perception for animals - the archetypal inborn frame, folk classification, etnozoology, etnobotany and their similarity in distinct ethnic group. Differences between original folk classification and scientific taxonomy. 3. Domestication is an interaction between two living forms, analogy of the domestication in subhuman forms, beginning of domestication, the autodomestication (Lorenz), Neolithic revolution 4. Domesticants I. Domesticants and their characters, morphological and psychological changes during domestication, practical and nonpractical value of domesticants, concrete domesticants. 5. Domesticants II. Cultural plants and their value, compared to animal domesticants, gardening. 6. Groups of animals and their archetypal and symbolical meaning in diverse cultures, vertebrata. Plants and fungi their archetypal and etnopharmacological role in distant cultures. Subjective relations to animals, the beginning and development of individual protection. Comparison with the protection of people, the polarized dichotomy between "sacrificed animals" and "pets". 7. Conclusion: psychological background of nature and landscape protection, the reasons of preference for biodiversity, the chance of small and unobtrusive life forms to be protected. Perception of countryside in distant cultures, wilderness versus cultural landscape, "subjective" and "objective" biology.
