Course content
Lectures will focus on the following topics : sense organs and behavior of selected groups of animals ( Cnidaria, Ctenophora , Platyhelminthes, Gastrotricha , Rotatoria , Annelida , Crustacea, Chelicerata , Insecta, Mollusca) . Chemoreceptors , chemical stimuli , such as impulse for " searching bahaviour". Sensory structures, mechanoreceptors, types of chemoreceptors, eyes, setae. Sense Organs and control flying insects. Behavior associated with obtaining food ( Platyhelminthes, Crustacea, Onychophora , Tardigrada , Diplopoda , Arachnida , Insecta ). Behavior associated with reproduction : Courtship , mating and stimulation, copulation, sperm transfer forms . Agonistic behavior .. Nuptial gifts and their meaning. Sexual cannibalism and its forms by arthropods . Parental care, egg laying ( Chilopoda , Arachnida , Insecta ), parental care ( Crustacea, Chilopoda , Arachnida , Insecta ). Cocoons and their role. Defensive behavior. Protective coloration. Mimicry.
