Course content
1. model organisms (history, basic terminology) 2. E. coli (basics of cloning, recombinant DNA technology) 3. Yeasts (2-hybrid system) 4. C. elegans (RNAi) 5. Insects (P-element transformation, Gal4/UAS system) 6. P. dumerilii (gene expression profiling in cellular resolution) 7. Lancelets (RNA in situ/FISH) 8. Fish (I-SceI transgenesis, Zn-finger nucleases, TALENs) 9. Amphibians (morpholino knock-down) 10. G. domesticus (viral transgenesis) 11. M. musculus (ES cells modifications, Cre-LoxP system, CRISPRs system) 12. Basics of Bioinformatics (+ practical exercise)

Learning outcomes
The course is focused on methods for genome manipulations in traditional and modern model organisms. The set of lectures covers most recent advances in molecular genetics and genetic engineering. During practical part of the course students will be trained in the basics of bioinformatics.

Students will learn and understand basic terminology, approaches and methods used in molecular genetics and genetic engineering.
