Course content
Educational topics of workshops and self-study: Introduction to the study of the subject. Sources, literature, examples. Introduction to the scope of Olympianism in contemporary sport. The origin of the ancient Olympics and its position in Hellenic Greece. The golden age of ancient Olympianism. Roman influence, the end of the Olympics. Ancient philosophy and Olympianism. TK in the European Middle Ages, the Renaissance, humanism and in early capitalism, the accumulation of Olympic ideas in the European space. Ancient philosophy and Olympianism. Modern and postmodern philosophy and Olympianism, ethics of sport. The personality of Pierre de Coubertin, his reflections and thoughts leading to the renewal of the Olympic tradition. Olympic symbolism and charter and its philosophical and ethical overlap. History of Olympism before the First World War and in the interwar period, performances, functions of the IOC. History of Olympism after World War II. Key periods, sports performances, functions of the IOC and other bodies. Czechoslovak and Czech Olympic track, national sports teams, personalities and Olympic organizations. Problems of the current Olympic movement, commercialization of sports, doping, ethical dimension, fair play. Political and economic influences in Olympianism. The course has 4 hours of contact teaching. Topics marked in bold will be presented in contact teaching. Other topics will be the subject of independent study on the basis of compulsory and recommended literature. Self-study is managed by the teacher, the basis is the recommended literature, and especially the study aids listed at: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1NS9uz-8DFYsO8M9h4qydvEdeXuUsyxiU. Feedback takes place by checking knowledge and skills during consultations. Topics are further consulted via e-mail (Jan. Kresta@ujep.cz), by phone, or via the university's electronic information system. General knowledge is evaluated by a theoretical test or oral examination. The STAG information system is used to record study results. In addition to contact teaching, direct contact with the teacher is ensured by obligatory set consultation hours on the day of teaching the combined form of study. Contact is also provided by telephone, e-mail (mail above) and the possibility to inform students via STAG or the website of the workplace

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge about the intellectual foundations of the modern Olympic movement, the historical and philosophical aspects of its origin and development, significant events, developmental breakthroughs and personalities who participated in this. Furthermore, to provide students with tools for working with a wide range of written and electronic documents that are related to the issue.
Student after completing the course: - is familiar with the philosophical foundations of Olympianism, - is able to capture the influence of general history and history of physical culture on the development and current state of Olympianism, - knows important personalities, especially locals, who had a major influence on the formation of Olympianism, - is able to use philosophical and historical sources of knowledge, to process them synthetically and to acquaint the wider plenary with the results of this work.

Assessment methods and criteria

Compulsory attendance at seminars at least 80%, elaboration of a seminar paper on a given topic and its presentation to colleagues, passing didactic tests or an oral examination, the examinee is expected to orient in all topics that will be heard in the seminars.
