The course focuses on social groups, their structure, dynamics, and significance for individual development in educational and developmental contexts. It introduces students to basic types of social groups, such as the family, peer groups, and the school class, and examines their role in the processes of socialisation, education, and development of children and young people. Attention is paid to group dynamics, relationships between individuals and groups, and methods of analysing group processes using sociometric and other diagnostic techniques. The course addresses group functioning across different developmental stages of childhood and highlights specific features of groups operating in institutional settings. The acquired knowledge and skills are applicable not only in educational practice but also in the field of social work, particularly in work with groups of children and young people in preventive, counselling, and community contexts. The course links theoretical foundations with practical application and supports students? ability to reflect critically and argue professionally in the area of group work.
Learning Outcomes After successful completion of the course, students will be able to: - explain the basic characteristics, structure, and dynamics of social groups; - describe the role of key social groups (family, peer group, school class) in human and personality development; - analyse relationships between the individual and social groups in educational contexts; - apply basic sociometric techniques to assess group dynamics; - interpret basic results of sociometric analysis; - discuss and present their own perspectives on issues related to social groups and defend their arguments; - connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications in educational and social contexts.
