The course focuses on comprehensive support for individuals with hearing impairment, with particular emphasis on education. It introduces students to basic characteristics, diagnosis, and support options, including communication systems, early intervention, and the legislative framework. The aim of the course is to develop students? understanding of the needs of individuals with hearing impairment and their ability to apply principles of support in educational or counselling practice.
After successful completion of the course, students will be able to: - explain basic terminology, classification, and causes of hearing impairment; - describe methods of diagnosis assessment, hearing aids and assistive technologies, and rehabilitation; - characterise communication systems used by individuals with hearing impairment; - explain the importance of early diagnosis and early intervention; - describe the specific characteristics of education for individuals with hearing impairment; - demonstrate orientation in basic legislative documents and sources of best practice.
