The course acquaints students with the theory and practice of environmental education in a kindergarten environment. It presents the history of the field in relation to the Czech context and draws attention to the main directions of environmental education. The content is focused on the understanding of environmental education in Czech curricular documents, the theory of the field (environmental sensitivity, environmental literacy, the relationship to the place, the focus of control, etc.) and functional strategies in preschool children. Part of the course is implemented using the method of inverted classroom, where students study specific lessons and materials in advance and these are then discussed at the seminar.
The student will create a project proposal using the principles of locally grounded learning. Orients in the history of environmental education, defines its goals with emphasis on the specifics of preschool education. It describes functional strategies of environmental education, is oriented in the principles of locally grounded learning and outdoor learning. Describes the importance of natural school gardens, knows the basic elements of these gardens. He orients himself in non-governmental non-profit organizations providing environmental programs for kindergarten children. It proposes a simple model for the evaluation of environmental education.
