Course content
1. The importance of literacy for the systematic teaching of reading and writing. Development, elements, content of early literacy. Formation of pre-literacy skills in kindergarten. Psychological foundations of initial reading and writing. 2. The child's readiness to teach reading and writing skills. 3. Prerequisites for successful mastering of reading and writing skills. Diagnosis of visual, auditory perception, spatial orientation skills, gross and fine motor skills, laterality, vocabulary, speech. 4. Overview of reading and writing practice methods. Information on methods of practicing reading and writing skills at present. (analytical-synthetic, genetic method, method of flowing reading, global reading). Presentation of some textbooks suitable for individual methods of training. 5. Development of visual perception: visual differentiation (distinguishing objects, searching for identical images, differences in axially different images). 6. Spatial orientation. Right-left orientation training. Orientation in the scheme of one's own body and on the other person. Sequence. Didactic games. 7. Development of auditory perception. Development of phonemic hearing (determining the voice sound, the sound at the end of the word, in the middle of the word). 8. Rhythmization (applause of syllables, graphical representation of words and syllables, rhyming). Gymnastics of articulatory system. Breathing and phonation exercises. Practical training. Oromotor exercises. 9. Graphomotorics - definition of the term. Graphomotor development of a child. Prerequisites for graphomotor activity. 10. Preparing the child for writing. Practicing proper sitting and holding a pencil. Types of grips. Desktop, writing utensils. Practical exercises: Development of gross and fine motor skills. Exercises for practicing the shoulder joint, arms, fingers, palms, pinch exercises. Use of sandpit. Use of commonly available material: (eg strings, wires, stones, scarves, spices, pasta, etc.). 11. Teaching according to the Montessori method in kindergarten (principles, aids of activity). Good start method. 12. Alternative methods of writing practice. Use of elements of yoga. Practical examples. 13. Evaluation of the seminar. Presentation of samples from the processed set of exercises.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquire competencies for assessing the developmental level of children to prepare for the practice of reading and writing skills. Through the course to acquire basic knowledge about activities leading to the development of the child in the field of visual and auditory perception, spatial orientation, graphomotor skills, which can be used in the education of preschool children. The course also includes an overview of current methods of reading and writing practice.

Student is able to orientate in the given issue and can apply the acquired knowledge in practice. Student can recommend appropriate procedures and select appropriate activation exercises to develop the areas needed in preparation for the practice of reading and writing skills.
