Course content
1. Basic informational sources and their sorting 2. Primary information sources. Book sources, professional, and scientific journals. Lectures and collections, diploma thesis, dissertation thesis, and habilitation thesis. Company owned literature, video materials, computer programs, and information on the internet. 3. Information record - bibliographical record, catalogue, bibliographical citation, ČSN ISO 690, and ČSN ISO 690-2, APA. Different ways of making a correct bibliographical citation. Excerption, annotation. 4. Secondary sources of information, report journals, internet databases, work with secondary sources of information 5. Processing professional and scientific texts. Content and formal requirements of scientific texts. 6. Types of diploma theses, and the definition of their content - work historically-comparative, cultural, empiric, linguistic, literary, - scientific, methodically - didactic 7. - 8. Informational preparation for a diploma thesis 9. Literary search during the preparation of a diploma thesis and its function. Processing the topic of the diploma thesis, formal division of a diploma thesis. 10. Obligatory parts of the empiric diploma thesis - research problem and its formulation, type of the research problem, characteristics of the research field, formulation of the individual goals, research issues, and research hypotheses. Types of empiric research. 11. Analysis of each individual part of the diploma thesis. Rules valid for the preparation of pictures, graphs, tabs, and other graphical components published in professional texts. 12. Diploma thesis review, its structure, focus, and evaluated features 13. Authorship law and the authorship ethics, plagiarism 14. Diploma thesis defence and its process

Learning outcomes
This seminar familiarizes its listeners with the generally applicable rules for preparation, realization, and management of a diploma thesis. The subject is focused on both formal parts and content. The following topics are covered during the seminars.
Students orientates himself/herself with the primary and secondary informational sources, is able to use the correct information sources and various tools used for a literary search within the databases, while getting ready to write his/her diploma thesis. Student is able to operate and apply the basic rules for creation of a diploma thesis, and other professional texts. Students is able to create a concept of a research design to his/her own diploma thesis, to realize a research, to process a data, and to adequately interpret. Student is also able to adequately discuss the gained results. Student can prepare him/herself for a defence of a diploma thesis and to react accordingly on remarks made by the thesis supervisor and opponent in their reviews.
