Course content
1. Pedagogy and its place among the other scientific disciplines, disciplines of education and specializations, theory of education and the theory of upbringing 2. Goals of education, historical change, philosophical origins, and concretization in educational praxis 3. Concept of education in historical perspective, search for a new model of education 4. Personality and social development of an individual (self-awareness, self-knowledge, social group influence, family and its influence, primary and secondary socialization of a child) 5. Curriculum: definition, trends, perspective, indicator of education 6. Didactic means of education 7. Organisational forms of tuition, system of formal and informal education: school, class, hobby group, children, and youth organisations 8. Methods of education in the context of postmodern education 9. Conditions of education: dialectic/reportorial relations between heredity, the environment, and education 10. The environmental climate in education, authority, discipline, and negative phenomena 11. Influencing the educational process: management, leadership, guidance, evaluation of the educational process, school as an institution 12. Innovation in education, reform movement, school documents, school reforms in the Czech Republic 13. Current state of an education system in the Czech Republic on the international scale of a globalised world 14. Requirements for functional literacy and key competences of a pupil regarding the society of knowledge

Learning outcomes
The goal of this subject is to introduce its students to the problematics of the relationship between theory of education and practice, including the selected philosophical aspects of education. The basic line of study is comprised of the analysis of modern upbringing and educational issues and the educational transformation process after the year 1989. The goal of this subject is to systematically improve the knowledge of students in the areas of the structure and function of pedagogy as a science and as a practical discipline. Furthermore, the subject aims to support the discussion of students about the phenomena in education, processes or the influence of the environment on a tutored individual's personality, and to train the necessary skills to be able to apply the educational content of this subject while solving various specific problems connected to education.
