Course content
1. Position, mission, and meaning of scientific research 2. Introduction to the basics of research in practice 3. Selection of problems, formulation of goals. Types of research problems, characteristics of the research field, formulation of individual goals, research issues and hypotheses. Formulation of hypotheses and tools for their verification I. 4. Formulation of hypotheses and tools for their verification II. 5. An overview of basic techniques for empiric material gathering. Traditional methods in both qualitative and quantitative research, e.g. observation, scaling, questionnaire methods, interviews, experiments, contextual text analysis etc. 6. Selection and organisation of data gathering, specifics of working as a researcher 7. Hypotheses verification and their interpretation 8. Qualitative and quantitative methods of processing the gathered data I. 9. Qualitative and quantitative methods of processing the gathered data II. 10. Qualitative and quantitative methods of processing the gathered data III. 11. Work with the results and their interpretation. Basics of statistical processing of research data 12. Work with the professional literature, citation, processing the final report 13. Presentation and publishing the results with an emphasis on their practical application.

Learning outcomes
The purpose of this subject is to familiarize its students with the basic problems of research and also with the traditional methods that are used in both qualitative and quantitative research. Students are to familiarize themselves with the theoretical level, but the emphasis is also put on practical application. This subject is also focused on familiarization of students with the basics of statistical research data processing.
Students are able to work with the rules of scientific research in a correct manner. They are able to conduct research corresponding with the rules of objective, valid, and reliable research. They are also able to apply the theoretical knowledge of methodology of psychoeducational research in praxis and to create a research project (mainly empirical research) and to realize this project in praxis. Based on the scientific research, students are to process a final report or professional article describing their research.
