Learning outcomes
This course is focused on familiarizing its students with the basic problematics of research (hypothesis, research sample, validity, reliability) and traditional methods that are being used in both qualitative and quantitative research. These are, e.g., observation, scaling, questionnaire methods, interview, experiment, contentual text analysis etc. Students are familiarized with these methods on a theoretical level, but the emphasis is also put on their practical application. This subject is also focused on the familiarization of its students with the basics of statistical processing of research data.
Students understand both the philosophical and propaedeutic basics of research into phenomena in education. They can characterize the individual research methods and techniques. They can create a basic design for both qualitatively and quantitatively oriented research studies (formulation of a research problem, setting up goals for research, hypotheses formulation, selection of research sample, adequate choice of methods and techniques). Students are able to control the basic statistical approaches of statistical data processing in a way that allows them to evaluate the results of research and to validly interpret them.
