Course content
1. Historical conditions of multiculturalism 2. Multiculturalism and intercultural education 3. Methods and goals of intercultural education 4. The European dimension of education and its current concept 5. Development of intercultural competence (clarification of basic terminology: intercultural sensitivity, intercultural competence, problematics of prejudices and stereotypes) 6. Intercultural communication (perception, verbal, nonverbal specifics of communication, communication ethics of individual stages of the intercultural education process) 7. Culture (definition, short excursion into the basic anthropological theories of cultures, attributes and defining features of a culture, cultural influence on the education process) 8. Gender studies (problematics of intercultural differences in regard to role behaviour) 9. Sociocultural handicap (presentation of important theories in regard to the educational environment, specifics of work with children of foreigners) 10. Mutual relations between majority and minority (problematics of minorities, their position among the majority society, approaches to foreigners, problematics of cultural identity) 11. Problematics of racism and xenophobia (definition of basic terms, overview of important theories) 12. Religious and intercultural dialogue I. 13. Religious and intercultural dialogue II. 14. Final evaluation

Learning outcomes
The goal of this course is to clarify the meaning of intercultural education within school tuition with a focus on the development of intercultural competences and clarification of modern trends in this area (transcultural approach). Students are familiarized with the professional terminology of intercultural education, its European dimension, the basics of intercultural communication, and ethical aspects of intercultural and interreligious dialog.
