Course content
1. The introduction to the subject 2. The key concepts of classical sociological theories (Durkheim and Weber) 3. The chosen concepts of current sociological theories 4. Theoretical concepts of social constructivism (Berger, Luckmann) 5. The basic paradigms of sociological thinking 6. The theory of conflict, consensus, and interpretation 7. The problematics of status and power in a society 8. The stratified and structuralized society: social structure, social stratification, social status and its indicators, social and cultural capital, social mobility. The question of equality. 9. The risk society: late modern times as the risk society, distribution of risks, knowledge in the risk society 10. Social inequality, cohabitation, and a family 11. The individualization and standardization of life stories: social belonging, education, and work 12. The reflexive modernization: knowledge and science 13. The reflexive modernization: technology and the possibilities of its influence

Learning outcomes
During this subject, students will be familiarized with the problematics of basic issues in sociology as a scientific branch. The goal of this course is to introduce students to the sociological form of thinking about current reality, to be familiar with the basic sociological terms, concepts and paradigms.
The students of this subject will obtain theoretical knowledge about the structure of processual society phenomena and regularities. After the successful completion of this subject, the students will be familiar with the basic sociological concepts and will be able to formulate and interpretate social phenomena thanks to this newly acquired terminology.
