1. Process, types and phases of mediation: culturally-historical context 2. Criminal mediation - application of mediation in the system of criminal justice, legislation 3. Noncriminal mediation - family (specifics, process, legislation) and civic (specifics, process, legislation) 4. Noncriminal mediation - commerce and consumers (specifics, process, legislation) 5. Meaning and specifics of school mediation 6. Probation (examples, possibilities, activities of probation officials) I. 7. Probation (examples, possibilities, activities of probation officials) II. 8. Alternative punishments - meaning, legislation, possibilities, types 9. Handling programmes - types, legislation anchor 10. Methods of resocialization work with the selected target groups (techniques, approaches) 11. Goals and activities of the Probation and mediation service of the CZ - examples from praxis I. 12. Goals and activities of the Probation and mediation service of the CZ - examples from praxis II. 13. Legislation adjustment of the life sentence in Czech law - examples and foreign inspiration, work with the incarcerated 13. Protective measures: house arrest

Learning outcomes
The goal of this subject is to introduce its listeners to the problematics of mediation and probation. This subject contains both theoretical and practical knowledge. As a part of the lectures, listeners will be familiarized with the problematics of the Probation and Mediation Service of the CZ and its role in the justice system. Listeners will be familiar with the philosophy of restorative justice, the concept of alternative punishments, and the stance of mediation in criminal law. Furthermore, the historical, philosophical, and social context of the creation of mediation as a process will be described. Students will be familiarized with mediation as an informal, structuralized process of conflict solving, during which the mediator serves as an impartial (3rd party) side and helps the other two parties to find an adequate solution to their social and legally uneasy situation.
