Course content
1. Introduction to the study of the field, professional literature, history of research (p). Morphology - grammatical categories of nouns and verbs (s). 2. Origin of Czech. Characteristics of Czech - symptomatic linguistic phenomena in the older period (p). Declination; stem system of nouns - developmental tendencies, grammatical categories (s). 3. Basic characteristics of developmental stages of Czech and sources for historical development of Czech language (p). Masculine nouns - declension types (s). 4. Ortography systems (p). Feminine nouns - declension types (s). 5. The oldest Czech phonetic changes (p). Neuter nouns - declension types (s). 6. Phonetic changes from the beginning of the 11th century to the end of the 13th century I. (p). Declension of adjective, or compound (s). 7. Phonetic changes from the beginning of the 11th century to the end of the 13th century II. (p). Declension of pronouns (s). 8. Phonetic changes of the 14th century I. (p). Change from stem principle to gender principle (s). 9. Phonetic changes of the 14th century II. (p). Verb - conjugation, grammatical categories (s). 10. Phones in the flow of speech (p). Present, simple past tenses and their development (s). 11. Phonetic changes from the end of the 14th century to the end of the 16th century I. (p). Imperative. Non-finite and finite verb forms (s). 12. Phonetic changes from the end of the 14th century to the end of the 16th century II. (p). System of Old Czech participles. Compound verb forms (s).

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to understand Old Czech texts and systemic changes in individual language levels. An essential component of the curriculum is the analysis of selected Old Czech texts. The description of the historical development of Czech is thus a necessary support for the study of contemporary Czech.
