Course content
1. Periods of Czech literature from 1945 to 1989. Secondary literature. 2. Czech literature 1945-1948. (Political and cultural contexts. Poetry, prose, drama.) 3. Czech literature 1948-1958. (Literary life: political and cultural contexts, censorship, exile, reflection on literature.) 4. "Building" prose, disruption of the "building" scheme, war themes, prose in exile and internal exile. 5. Poetry as an expression of official ideology, exile poetry, dramatic work. 6. Czech literature 1958-1969. (Literary life: political and cultural context, censorship, literary magazines, literature in exile.) 7. Prose: change of war reflections, expansion of themes, change of genre hierarchy, social prose. 8. Forms of poetry, changes of poetics. Drama as a cultural-political phenomenon, drama of the absurd and model drama, poetics of small form theaters. 9. Czech literature 1969-1989. (Literary life: political and cultural contexts, literary magazines, literature in exile.) 10. Official, samizdat and exile prose. 11. Poetry in exile and samizdat, poetics of the underground, surrealism, poetry "on the edge", poetry in the service of the regime. 12. Changes of dramatic texts and theaters in the time of so-called normalization. Production of forbidden playwrights.

The course is focused on the interpretation of the development of Czech literature between 1945 and 1989. Attention is paid to the nodal points of Czech history, political and cultural context. Essential works of Czech literature of the period are to be presented.
