The course presents valuable works of Czech literature, cinema and culture through the screening of a film with English subtitles. The works selected are essential to the Czech historical experience (the occupation during World War II and the Holocaust, the expulsion of the Germans, the experience of the communist dictatorship, the occupation by Warsaw Pact troops in 1968). Film adaptations are also an easy way to get to know the most important Czech writers, such as Bohumil Hrabal, Milan Kundera, Vladimír Körner or Franz Kafka (The Trial by Orson Welles, Czech adaptation of the novel Amerika).
