Course content
1. Media education in FEP, media literacy. Media education in ethical contexts. 2. Media and their role in society, a brief history of mass media. 3. Media psychology. 4. Media institutions and organizations in the world and in the Czech Republic, media map. 5. Legislative regulation of the media and their regulation in the Czech Republic. 6. Ownership and economic functioning of the media in the world and in the Czech Republic. 7. Media in digital space - so-called new media. 8. Visual communication in the media. 9. Misinformation, manipulation and propaganda in the media. 10. Journalism and its main media content: news and journalism. 11. The work of a journalist - the functioning of the editorial office and journalistic practice. 12. Journalistic texts and their analysis.

Learning outcomes
The course is focused on gaining deeper media literacy. It introduces media communication, the mass media and their functioning, influence, effect and impact on consumers. An integral part of the course is an explanation of the context and connections associated with misinformation and manipulation. Students will also get acquainted with new trends in the media and learn to perceive, decipher what the media want to say, and distinguish objective information from the information that the media are trying to convey. Students can interpret media content, apply critical thinking, find connections between the influence, effect and impact of the media on the consciousness of recipients, recognize the means of persuasion. They can provide an overview of the functioning of the media, their regulation and media law.
