The course builds on the content of linguistic subjects and focuses on practical text analysis against the background of Morphosyntax, Lexicology and Semantics. Its goal is to apply theoretical knowledge and at the same time deepen the ability to interpret the meaning of the text in the context of the linguistic means used. Based on authentic texts of the main text genres, attention is paid to the relationship between the formal grammatical aspect of the text and its semantic interpretation. An important part of the seminars is the creation of one's own short texts according to the specified format and their subsequent analysis in the form of a discussion. Topics of lectures and seminars: 1. Text Coherence and Cohesion: Discourse Analysis 2. Thematic structure and Functional Sentence Perspective. 3. Cognitive Linguistics with the focus on Categorization Strategies, Idealized Cognitive Models and the Conceptual Metaphor. 4. Functional Stylistic Analysis Viewed Through the Lens of Corpus Linguistics. The Choice of Linguistic Devices Forming a Stylistic Variant. 5. Verb semantics. Lexical Aspect and Verb Meaning. 6. Speech Act Analysis. An Illocutionary Act and its Implications.
