This course is taught in two semesters and its goal is to acquire theoretical knowledge in the field of stylistics. The course includes work with primary and secondary sources in order to acquire practical skills necessary for the application of this knowledge in written expression. The course is divided into two parts: Written Expression in English 1 and 2. In seminar classes, students practice writing in various genres and learn to use verbal resources from different stylistic layers of the language in various word-forming procedures. Seminar topics: 1. Structure of various genres of written expression 2. Outline and composition 3. Quotation 4. Selection of sources 5. Substantive argumentation 6. Internal structure of a paragraph 7. Expressing one's own opinion 8. Critical thinking 9. Formal aspects 10. Table of contents and indexes 11. Citation standards 12. Presentation of one's own essay on a given topic Acquired competencies: At the end of the summer semester of the 1st year, students will acquire practical skills in the field of writing essays/compositions and will be able to: - correctly understand the structure of a paragraph - lay out the structure of the entire written expression (composition), - formulate ideas They are prepared - argue in class discussions and in the field of written expression when writing essays - express and express one's own opinions - confront one's opinions with those contained in critical literature - gradually acquire other skills that they will later apply when writing a bachelor's thesis;
