Course content
|
1. Presentation of the field of study, faculty and university, professional career 2. University and faculty structure, academic year and its parts, tuition system (courses - names, content, credit system, final-year dissertation, final year state exam) 3. Profile of the field of study in terms of studies and practical use 4. Comparing educational systems in our country and in countries speaking the relevant foreign language. Test 1 5. Social issues: employment, social and welfare systems, health care 6. Fundamentals of using formal language in writing (structured CV, letter of application) 7. Questionnaire, application, confirmation and registration forms 8. Academic short form texts (annotation / abstract / resume / summary) 9. Social issues: addictions (drugs, smoking, alcohol, gambling, PC addiction, etc.) Test 2 10. Social issues: discrimination (xenophobia, racism, ageism, sexism, bullying/mobbing...) 11. Social issues: crime (breaking the law, types of crime, offences, punishment, crime prevention) 12. Social issues: environment (problems/solutions, environmental protection) Test 3 13. Professional text analysis: selected issues.

Learning outcomes
|
The course aims at the aquisition of language for general academic purposes at intermediate level with the goal to enable students to manage communication in commonplace situations which a college student may deal with. Vocabulary, grammatical structures and all fundamental language skills are developed and further consolidated in accordance with students' needs. The level approximately corresponds to level B1 of the European referential framework.
Student acquires language skills in foreign language for specific academic and professional purposes at B1 - B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

The student is expected to have developed a positive attitude to the language studied. Their language skills level is B1.
