Course content
1. Self-presentation, family - characteristics, relationships and relatives, hobbies and interests 2. Describing a person (appearance, qualities) 3. Housing - types of housing, describing a house(flat), furnishings 4. Leisure - interests (art and culture, sport...) daily routine 5. Shopping - shops and goods there, kinds of payment, describing the shopping procedure in various types of shops 6. Food and cousine - typical eating habits in our country and in the relevant foreign country, restaurants and hotels. Diet and eating habits of college students 7. Travel - means of transport, kinds of transport, way to school and to work, going abroad, accommodation. 8. Medical care - common examination, diseases and their treatment, prevention. 9. School system - in our country and in the relevant foreign country, types of schools 10. Study programmes, subjects, courses, studying at college 11. Jobs - types of jobs, qualifications required, career ladder 12. Environment - environmental problems - environmental protection, natural world - flora and fauna 13. Aspects of life and institutions of relevant countries - eg. location, relief, climate, industry, population, agriculture, political system, history, literature

Learning outcomes
The course develops the fundamentals of general language and provides students with the basics of common technical language. It deals primarily with vocabulary and skills development needed for reading comprehension of simple technical texts and for communication in uncomplicated non-specific professional situations. The level corresponds approximately to level A2 of the European referential framework.
