The course aims at the aquisition of language for specific academic / professional purposes at upper intermediate level. The main emphasis is on the development of language skills necessary for reading technical texts and on further development of communication skills for various professional and academic situations. Following students´ needs, more vocabulary is built, and grammatical structures typical for technical style in particular fields are consolidated. The languge level corresponds to the B2 level of European reference framework.
1. Presentation of the filed of study, faculty and university, professional career 2. University and faculty structure, academic year and its parts, tuition system (courses - names, content, credit system, final-year dissertation, final year state exam) 3. Profile of the field of study in terms of studies and practical use 4. Technical texts ( annonations / abstract and summary writing) 5. Comparing educational systems in our country and in countries speaking the relevant foreign language. Test 1 6. Social issues: employment, social and welfare systems, health care 7. Fundamentals of using formal language in writing (structured CV, letter of application) 8. Questionnaire, application, confirmation and registration forms,... 9. Social issues: addictions (drugs, smoking, alcohol, gambling, PC addiction,...). Test 2 10. Social issues: discrimination (xenophobia, racism, ageism, sexism, bullying/mobbing...) 11. Social issues: crime (breaking the law, types of crime, offences, punishment, crime prevention) 12. Social issues: environment (problems/solutions, environmental protection) 13.
