Course content
1. The introduction to the hazard operation study (HOS), the system of the environmental burden evaluation, the criteria for soil and groundwater pollution. 2. Types of contaminants (soluble, non-miscible, persistent) and their behaviour in the environment. Threats to surface and ground waters. 3. The methods of HOS. Landscape data, the utilisation of landcape. The natural conditions, geological and hydrogeological data. The selection of substances of potential interest. 4. The assesment of the contaminant properties. Physical and chemical properties. The types of dividing coefficients for water, soil and biota. 5. The evaluation of pollution propagation. The characteristics of non-saturated zone parameters. 6. The basic migration parameters. The hydrodynamic migration processes. The physical and chemical migration processes. 7. Simple types of models of contaminant flows and transportation. The influence of the structure and lithology of hydrogeological solid figures. The types of collectors. 8. The assesment of uncertainty for migration parameter estimation. The duties of the reviewer. The necessary calculations and estimations. 9. The assesment of environmental hazards. The evaluation of health and environmental risks. 10. The determination of the dose - response relationship. Carcinogenic substances. Non-carcinogenic substances. 11. The evaluation of the exposure. The relationships for individual exposure routes. The exposure scenarios. 12. The characteristics of hazards. 13. The basic types of redevelopment technologies. The selection of technologies. The review of redevelopment proposals. 14. The hazard management. The evaluation of HOS. The proposal for redevelopment and monitoring. Examples of HOS.
