Course content
1. Overview of spectroscopic techniques for elemental analysis. 2. Principle of optical emission/absorption spectra, principle of mass atomic spectra. 3. Atomic absoption spectrometry: instrumentation, radiation sources, atomizers, monochromatization and detection of radiation, background correction, non-spectral and spectral interferences, elimination or correction of interferences, calibration, examples of analytical methods. 4. Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry: principle, sample introduction techniques, monochromatization and detection of radiation, types of spectrometers, signal measurement, background correction, spectral and non-spectral interferences, elimination or correction of interferences, measurement optimization and diagnostics, calibration, examples of analytiacl methods. 5. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry: principle, types of mass spectrometers used with inductively coupled plasma ionization source, spectral and non-spectral interferences, elimination or correction of interferences, calibration, measurement optimization, examples of analytical methods, application of ICP-MS as detector for speciation analysis.
