Course content
1. Introduction. A comparison of Sensors and Biosensors with Chemical Analysis. 2. History of biosensors. Examples of practical application of biosensors. 3. Basic concepts of electrical and optical sensors. 4. Optical sensors - characterization and production of optical fibers. 5. Extrinsic optical fiber sensors. 6. Intrinsic optical fiber sensors. 7. Biological components and supportive materials of biosensors. 8. Immobilisation of sensitive parts of biosensors. 9. Whole-cell biosensors I. 10. Whole-cell biosensors II. 11. Sensors of pH. 12. Oxygen sensors. 13. Bioluminescent bioreporters. Semiquantitative sensing of organic pollutants. Practical demonstration in the laboratory. 14. Bioluminescent bioreporters. Sensing of hormonally active chemicals. Practical demonstration in the laboratory. 15. The students´ presentations of involvement of sensors and biosensors in their professional projects.
