Course content
Seminar Topics: 1. week: The introduction into legal issues, the term of law, the creation of legal norms. 2. week: The system of law in the Czech Republic. 3. week: The Constitution, The Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms. 4. week: Interconnection of Czech and European legal norms and their relation to health care. 5. week: The Family Code. Social care for the citizens and the system of social security in the Czech Republic. 6. week: The responsibility for health care performance. The Labout Code: basic regulations. 7. week: The Criminal Code and its basics. The offences in health care and criminal law basics.

Learning outcomes
Subject informs about the law and legislation and it introduces the valid legislation related to the system of health and social services, rights and duties of medical professions, patients, clients and the organs of public administration. It contains also the areas of professional legislation covering the birth assistant's activities including public protection of a mother and a child. The subject is a part of a complex set of profile subjects relevant to the birth assistant's activities.
Subject Knowledge: Students know basic legal terminology and they are introduced with a legal code of the Czech Republic. They understand the relations between Czech and European legal system and the relation between the executive and legislation in medical and health care. Professional Skills: Students are able to use the social areas of the law to help the patients. The are able to recognize and identify legal issues in the situations appearing within a medical system and during the work of a birth assistant.
