Learning outcomes
The subject is a topical unit providing the students with the basic knowledge from the fields of epidemiology, hygiene, health education, which is an important part of public health care. It is the knowledge which is necessary for the protection and support of public health; it helps the understanding of the connections between clinical and preventive medicine and midwifery. It also covers the prevention of professional injuries of the medical staff and nosocomial infections.
Subject Knowledge: Students will get the knowledge about the relationship and the influence of the environment on the people, how it affects their health (negatively and positively) and the measures of health protection. They will know the basic hygiene of the environment, nutrition, how working condition affects a medical staff, the focus is put on health care and preventive measures; they know causes and prevention of nosocomial infections; they will have some theoretical knowledge covering health education issues, the methods and forms of care providing for the individuals and communities. Professional Skills: Students will create a questionnaire to assess the knowledge, opinions, the condition of the patients/clients, they know how to create an intervention program focused on terminating or lowering the risk factors threatening health in a primary, secondary, tertiary health education (non-smoking/addiction treatment, healthy diets, addiction prevention, movement, preventive medical checks attendance, healthy parenting, prevention of sexually transmissive diseases, etc.) Students are able to describe the causes of nosocomial infections and they know the procedures of prevention. They know the correct procedures of hand washing, disinfection and sterilization, the rules of health protection of a medical staff.
