Course content
Themes topics: Week 1: Introduction to nursing theory in midwifery, concept of nursing in midwifery, holistic approach in PA, signs of PA field science. Week 2: History of Babbitt, Development of the PA's profession, role and role of PA in modern nursing in midwifery, image PA, competence of PA, regulation and registration in midwifery, legislative frameworks. 3. Week: The Importance of Professional Organizations in Midwifery, History and Present, CKPA, UNIPA, ICM, WHO European Strategy, NANDA, NIC, NOC, NNN. 4. Week: Nursing care in midwifery - concept and importance of basic nursing care, forms and methods of nursing care in midwifery, nursing process. 5. Week: Object of care provided in midwifery, human needs in health and illness in PA, classification and needs theory, concept of WHO need, Health 21, nursing problem, diagnosis, factors influencing the satisfaction of needs. 6. Week: Nursing process, historical view of development, characteristics, phase of the nursing process, nursing process application in PA practice, nursing plan. 7th week: Nursing process - 1st phase of the process (assessment of the current needs of the client / family / community, nursing history, methods, sources and types of data, observation, interview, physical examination), 2nd stage of the process - nursing diagnostics , nursing diagnosis formula, NANDA), 3rd phase of the process, 4, 5th phase of the process. 8. Week: Nursing documentation in midwifery - importance for nursing practice, requirements, legal aspects of nursing documentation, midwifery education, educational plan. 9. Week: Conceptual Models - Introduction, Theory (Humanistic Models: F. Nightigale, V. Henderson, M. Leiniger, D. Orem, Models of Interpersonal Relations: M. Gordon, J. Orlando, System Models: C. Roy, I. King, Models of Energy Fields: M. Rogers. 10. Week: Application of nursing models to practice in midwifery. 11. Week: Management in nursing, nursing management, PA teamwork, quality of nursing care in midwifery, safe nursing care. 12. Week: Research in midwifery (qualitative and quantitative research, PA research methods), Evidence Based Practice, Evidence Based Midwifery, JBI.

Learning outcomes
The subject is theoretical and practical. It consists of the theory of the field, the history and the development focused on midwifery and its most important figures, on methodology of the nursing process, human needs with a special orientation on a woman and a child, nursing procedures and multiculturalism. The subject is also focused on the issues of defining basic terms of the theory, the issues of origin, the establishment and the characteristics of the field as a modern scientific discipline.
Field knowledge: Students are able to: enumerate metaparadigma and describe relationships between health - illness - midwifery and the environment, define nursing care for a person from holistic philosophy perspective, to list the circumstances of the origin and history of the nursing process, to define the concept of a modern concept of midwifery in the Czech Republic, to explain the role of the PA, the regulatory system of the profession and registration of PA, to describe the specifics of research in midwifery. Field skills: Students are able to: find information and resources on the activities of international and national professional organizations and use them to extend the theoretical knowledge of the field, to search the WHO European Strategy documents for midwifery education and to use them to develop knowledge about the modern concept of obstetric care in the Czech Republic and Europe, on the basis of legislative knowledge, seek information on the use of the midwife profession in the European region. The student can work on the basis of a nursing plan, with nursing documentation and provide adequate nursing care according to appropriate methodology and care.
