Course content
Lecture topics: 1st consultation: Introduction to the problematics of special pedagogy. Definition of the concept, subject, goal of special pedagogy. Special pedagogical fields and their characteristics. Related scientific disciplines. Interdisciplinary relations. Historical development of the special pedagogy and the present. Paradigms of special education. 2nd consultation: Examples of good practice and selected contemporary inclusive strategies in the Czech Republic and abroad (USA, Canada, Finland, etc.) Seminar topics: 3rd consultation: Possibilities of implementing inclusive strategies, possible barriers. 4th consultation: Application of special pedagogical methods in a normal school environment, interaction with pupils in need of support measures, current legislation, possibilities of support from counseling facilities. The issue of autism in secondary school students. Self-study: Subdisciplines of special education, etiology of disabilities. Types of developmental disorders. Internal and external teratogenic factors, their mutual relationship and share. Therapy, re-education, compensation, rehabilitation, comprehensive rehabilitation in special pedagogical practice.

Learning outcomes
The course will introduce students to the issues of special education and inclusive education. It will provide students with a basic specially pedagogic conceptual apparatus. Students will become familiar with individual special pedagogic disciplines, basic methods and principles of special pedagogy, the system of special pedagogic care for individuals with disabilities. Students will get basic information about the field of special education and become familiar with its special education disciplines. They are informed about the causes of disability, individual methods and principles of educational work for individuals with special needs, with an emphasis on the influence and importance of the family.
Expertise: The student is well versed in the field of special education and inclusive education; knows the basic characteristics of pupils with special educational needs according to individual types of disabilities. Professional skills: The student is able to use the acquired knowledge in the education of pupils with SEN in the position of a pedagogical worker; has theoretical knowledge about the inclusive education of pupils with SEN. General qualifications: The student can use them in practice as part of the individualization and differentiation of teaching.
