Course content
Seminar Topics: 1. Introduction to Evidence - Evidence Based Practice (EBP). 2. Evidence-Based Midwifery (EBM) Historical Perspective, Definition, Situation in the Czech Republic and the World. 3. Critical assessment and search for clinical problems, Formulation of clinical issues. Finding the best evidence by type of clinical question. Working with search engines (AND, OR, NOT). 4. Terminology (ISSN, ISBN, search terms), open-access principle. 5. Searching in Czech databases, searching e-catalogs of UJEP library and libraries in MEDVIK (NLK, Regional Health Library, a.s.). Search in foreign databases. 6. Evaluation of found evidence, hierarchy, suggestions for practice. Research on selected issues from clinical practice.

Learning outcomes
Students will acquire basic knowledge of evidence-based practice applied in midwifery. The aim of the course is to teach students to determine the clinical question and to search and analyze the found evidence by using search activities using available databases and to suggest the best evidence for clinical practice.
Expertise: Students can describe the phases of the evidence-based nursing process, formulate a clinical question using the PICOT format, and know the terminology associated with publication activity. They have an overview of available bibliographic databases and databases containing aggregated health data. Professional skills: Students will be able to independently carry out research and are able to obtain data from publicly available databases for work in project development according to the established clinical question in selected issues. Students will be able to evaluate the found evidence and propose best practices for clinical practice. General competences: The student is able to communicate comprehensibly and convincingly to the woman about the nature of professional problems and to propose their solution.
