Course content
Seminar Topics: 1. week: Introduction: evidence - based practice (EBP), evidence - based nursing (EBN) and historical overview, the definition, the situation in the Czech Republic and in the world. 2. week: Critical evaluation and searching for clinical problems. Formulation of a clinical question. The types of clinical questions. 3. week: Searching for the best evidence based on the type of the question. 4. week: Working with search engines (AND, OR, NOT), terminology (ISSN, ISBN, English terms for searching criteria), open-access principle. 5. week: Searching in Czech databases, in e-catalogues of the UJEP library and MEDVIKU libraries (NLK, Redional Hospital Library). 6. week: Searching in foreign databases. 7. week: The evaluation of evidence, hierarchization, suggesting for the training.

Learning outcomes
Students will get basic knowledge of the issues of training based on the evidence applied in a nursing care. The aim of the subject is to teach the students how to put a clinical question and to search in available databases, how to analyse the evidence and how to suggest the best possible evidence for a clinical training.
Subject Knowledge: Students are able to describe the phases of evidence-based nursing process Students are able to formulate a clinical question using PICOT format. Students know the terminology related to publishing, they know available bibliographical databases and databases containing aggregated medical data. Professional Skills: Students will be able to research and obtain publicly available data relevant to the preparation of a project based on a clinical question in selected issues. Students will be able to evaluate the evidence and suggest the best procedures for clinical training.
