Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. Structure of psychiatric care in the Czech Republic; legal issues Psychiatric examination - examination methods, symptoms of mental disorders 2. Treatment in psychiatry - pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, other methods (ECT). Intensive nursing care 3. Psychotic disorders. Mood disorders - depression, bipolar affective disorder. 4. Specifics of mental disorders in children and adolescents. Organic mental disorders Personality disorders. Neurotic disorders. 5. Addiction to addictive substances. 6. Anorexia nervosa and bulimia. Specifics of mental disorders in pregnancy and postpartum period.

Learning outcomes
The course is conceived as theoretical. It introduces students to clinical conditions, mental disorders and mental illnesses that may occur during the life of a woman, especially during pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium.
Expertise: The student knows the possibilities of diagnosis and therapy in patients with mental disorders, knows the symptoms of selected mental illnesses, knows the specifics of therapy in patients with mental disorders. Professional skills: The student is able to recognize clinical manifestations of mental disorders, to respect the specifics of mental disorders in old age and childhood. Can describe basic diagnostic methods in psychiatry, list therapeutic options in psychiatry. He/she is able to account legal aspects related to mental disorders and justify the importance of nursing care as part of the treatment of mental disorders. General competences: The student is able to communicate comprehensibly and convincingly to the woman about the nature of the professional problems and propose their solution.
