Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. week: Introduction into the organisation and modern issues of paediatrics. The growth and development of a healthy child, nutrition. 2. week: Pharmacotherapy in a child's age, infectious disorders in a child's age. 3. week: The disorders of a respiratory system, skin diseases. 4. week: The diseases of blood, heart, blood circulation. The disorders of kidney and urinary tract. 5. week: The disorders of the digestive system, the disorders of gland inner secretion. 6. week: The disorders of inner environment, immunity and allergic disorders. 7. week: The disorders of neural and muscular system. The most common sight, hearing and speech disorders. 8. week: Sudden states in paediatrics. Resuscitation of a newborn and an older child. Seminar Topics: 1. week: Nursing process for a child with respiratory system disorders. 2. week: Nursing process for a child with a GIT disorder. 3. week: Nursing process for a child with a uropoethical tract disorder. 4. week: Nursing process for a child with the disorder affecting haemopoiesis and blood coagulability. 5. week: Nursing process for a child with selected endocrine disorders. 6. week: Nursing process for a child with epilepsy and neuroinfections. 7. week: Nursing process for a child with a skin disease. 8. week: Nursing process for a child with an immune system disorder.

Learning outcomes
Subject is theoretically - practical and it is the part of a complex set of nursing subjects related to the care after a mother and a child. It provides the students with an overview of specifics of nursing care and the individual needs of a child in a certain age group with the focus on the newborn and nursling period. Students will get necessary knowledge and skills for general nursing care after a child including intensive care.
Subject Knowledge: Student is able to differ and name specific developmental periods of the child's age, explain anatomical and physiological peculiarities of a child's organism, describe the differences in child's nutrition during certain developmental stages, he is able to evaluate the state of a child using evaluation scales regarding the child's age, he can explain the rules and complications related to certain performances and operations applied in the expertise field. Professional Skills: Student is able to evaluate overall condition of a child considering the age, he can choose and work with a suitable scaling technique and the method appropriate for a child in a specific age, he can perform certain stages of the nursing process regarding the age of the child and his/her individual specifics, he is able to choose a correct procedure and technique of medication application for a child, evaluate the risk of an injury considering the child's age.
