Course content
Seminar topics: 1st consultation: 1. Theoretical approaches to health and illness. 2. Biopsychosocial model of health and illness. 3. Determinants of health. 2nd consultation: 1. Psychological and social consequences of a disease. 2. Psychosocial factors. Stress as a risk factor. Stressful situations and their effects - conflict, frustration, stress, trauma, crisis, deprivation. 3. Burnout syndrome in non-medical healthcare workers - definition, situations leading to burnout, symptoms of burnout, stages, diagnosis, prevention, risk factors. Self-study: 1. Health 2020. "EU for Health" Program 2021-2027 - a vision for a healthier European Union 2. WHO and its role in population health prevention. 3. Research studies in the field of sociology of medicine and healthcare focused on psychosocial aspects. 4. Quality of life and its importance in healthcare.

Learning outcomes
The subject allows students to gain knowledge about psychosocial aspects with a focus on the field of a healthcare. The course introduces students to the terms of illness, health, and the social dimension of health and illness. Within the optional subject, knowledge is focused on the interpretation of biomedical and bio-psycho-social models of health and disease, the concepts of vulnerability and resilience. The student is introduced to the concepts of psychological resistance. Furthermore, with psychosocial aspects of care for patients with various diagnoses. Part of the optional subject is the problem of burnout syndrome of workers in helping professions, mental hygiene and supervision.
Expertise: Student can describe psychosocial aspects in healthcare. Student can define terms related to the given area. Student can describe the burnout syndrome in helping professions, options of supervision and mental hygiene. Professional skills: The course proposes measures in the field of prevention of medical staff burnout syndrome. Student can propose a workplace supervision program. The student can analyze a contractual psychosocial problem. General qualifications: Student is able to use the acquired knowledge and communication skills in the educational process of medical school students.
