Course content
1. Theoretical approaches to health and disease, context of health and disease, determinants of health, psychosocial aspects of health and disease, social consequences of disease. 2. WHO and its role in population health prevention. Health 2020. 3. Quality of life, support of active approach to health, factors influencing health status, mental resilience of an individual, resilience. 4. Stressful situations and their effects - conflict, frustration, stress, trauma, crisis, deprivation. 5. Burnout syndrome in non-medical health professionals - definition, situations leading to burnout, manifestations of burnout, stages, diagnosis, prevention, risk factors, consequences of burnout syndrome. 6. Psychosomatics, stress and load, stress management, vulnerability, mental hygiene. 7. Psychosocial aspects of care for the sick, people with disabilities and the elderly. 8. Psychosocial support, supervision - terminology, forms. 9. Socio-psychological competencies, development of social competencies in health care. Social work in healthcare. 10. Research studies in the field of sociology of medicine and health care, measuring the quality of life. Sociometric questionnaire.

Learning outcomes
The course enables the acquisition of knowledge about psychosocial aspects with a focus on health care. Introduces students to the terms illness, health, the social dimension of health and illness. Within this elective course, the knowledge is focused on the interpretation of biomedical and bio-psycho-social models of health and disease, the concepts of vulnerability and resilience. The student is acquainted with the concepts of mental resilience. Furthermore, with psychosocial aspects of care for patients with various diagnoses. Part of the elective course is the issue of burnout of workers in helping professions, mental hygiene and supervision. The course supports the development of analytical and communication skills of the student
