Course content
Lecture topics: 1st consultation: 1. General division surgery. 2. Types of anesthesia, complications. 2nd consultation: 1. Abdominal surgery, NPH, hernias 2. Abdominal surgery - Diseases of the esophagus, stomach and small intestine. Colon and rectal disease. 3. Abdominal surgery - Diseases of the gallbladder and bile ducts, liver, spleen and pancreas. 3rd Consultation: 1. Pediatric surgery 2. Gerontosurgery 3. Transplantation and the transplant program Seminar topics: 4th consultation: 1. Assignment of seminar work, Preoperative and postoperative care, nursing process in a patient after thyroid surgery and breast 5th consultation: 1. Nursing process for a patient after surgery due to a sudden abdominal event, nursing process for a patient after urological surgery. Repetition, credit test. Self-study: Head surgery Operative in oncology.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to expand knowledge in the field of surgery. The subject is designed as a theoretical-practical unit and is part of a complex of subjects from clinical nursing. The basic pillar of the subject and an important aspect for understanding the needs of patients with surgical diseases is the identification of the problems of the surgical patient, knowledge of the causes, manifestations, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for selected, most frequently occurring diseases, sudden and shock states and injuries. The content of the study will be focused on basic and specific nursing care for patients with surgical diseases (examination methods, treatment procedures, preoperative and postoperative care, education, special care of drains, care of acute and chronic wounds and stoma). It characterizes clinical conditions, their etiology, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment in abdominal, thoracic and vascular surgery, cardiac surgery, urology, neurosurgery, orthopedics and traumatology, plastic surgery and burns. The course includes the basics of anesthesiology, gerontosurgery and pediatric surgery.
Expertise: The student is able to define the principles of diagnosis and treatment of selected surgical diseases. Student knows the diseases and symptoms of individual surgical types, knows the specifics of preparation for surgical procedures. Student knows the symptoms and treatment of postoperative illness and postoperative complications. Student is oriented in the peculiarities of surgical care for pediatric patients and the elderly. Professional skills: The student practically prepares the patient for a surgical examination, operation. Student can identify postoperative complications and knows solutions. Student is able to provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with selected surgical diseases. Student is oriented on the scope of work in individual sections of surgery. General qualifications: The student is able to clearly and convincingly provide the patient with information about the nature of professional problems and propose its' solution.
