Course content
Lecture Topics: 1. Basic concepts (research / research, basic / applied research, qualitative / quantitative, experiment / investigation). 2. Types of clinical trials and studies, ethical aspects - informed consent. 3. NursingOvid database, citation database available at UJEP (Web of Science, SCOPUS). 4. Ethics of Publishing - Copyright Act, Citation Standards. 5. Introduction to statistical surveys: Population and selection, identifiers / statistical quantities. 6. Questionnaires - standardized questionnaires, pilot investigations. Description of categorical quantities. 7. Description of numerical quantities (quantile and moment characteristics, box-plot). Time series and its characteristics.

Learning outcomes
The subject covers the issue of scientific work from the definition of the problem, the choice of an adequate method and the creation of questionnaires to selected options of statistical description of the obtained information. The aim of the course is to provide students with practical instructions on how to proceed with the preparation of the bachelor thesis, including providing information on the possibility to participate in the research carried out at the faculty.
Expertise: The student knows the principles of scientific work in all its phases, from planning through implementation to publication of results, knows the relevant terminology, and also knows the related ethical and citation standards. Professional skills: The student is able to acquire, electronically record and use computerized data processing using elementary statistical methods. General competences: The student understands the importance of scientific work for his / her field, is able to apply the principle of scientific work in his / her field adequately.
