Learning outcomes
The subject is theoretically - practical and it assumes the application of knowledge and skills from the other nursing and humanitarian subjects. It also assumes a certain level of creativity. The subject provides the basics of critical scientific thinking, understanding the need and importance of a scientific approach towards a nursing training. The subject also covers the basic steps of a research process, choosing the correct methods, data processing and result evaluating. 1. Introduction to statistical surveys: Population and selection, identifiers / statistical variables (basic types). 2. Descriptions of categorical variables. 3. Descriptions of numerical quantities (quantitative and momentary characteristics, box-plot). Time series and its characteristics. 4. Introduction to data analysis: Gauss curve, population parameters 5. Statistical hypotheses, level of significance. 6. Selected examples of statistical tests: Parallel and two-tier t-test (Excel - TTEST command). Selected samples of statistical tests: Chi-quadrate tests (Excel - CHITEST command). 7. Excel - transcription of questionnaires into electronic form. Excel - "Frequency" function, "PivotTable" tool. Excel - Functions "median", "average", "smodch". Work with the IHIS indicator database.
Subject Knowledge: Students know the rules of research activity in all its stages: from planning and processing to publication of the results; and they also know related ethical rules. Professional Skills: Students are able to obtain the data and applying basic statistical methods process the data using the computer.
