Seminar: Classification of bacteria. Morphological features of bacteria. Structure, shapes and arrangement of bacteria. 2. Bacteriology - physiology and genetics of bacteria, pathogenicity and virulence of bacteria, bacterial toxins; bacterial infections. Seminar: Collection and transport of biological material for laboratory examination. Bacterial culture test (soil, subtraction); microscopic evaluation; Serological diagnostics. 3. Special bacteriology: characteristics of medically important bacteria and their effects on the human body; antimicrobials, antibiotic resistance. Seminar: Assessment of antibiotic susceptibility. Illustrative examples of individual groups of bacteria and their representatives in connection with lectures. 4. Virology - properties and classification of viruses, interactions of viruses and cells, mechanisms of viral infections, characteristics of medically important viruses and their effects on the human body. Seminar: Construction of viruses; illustrative examples of individual families and their representatives. Virological diagnostics; cytopathic effect. 5. Learning outcomes
The subject is a thematic unit. By completing this course, students will become basic knowledge in the fields microbiology and immunology, which is an important basis for the study of epidemiology, hygiene and health education, i.e. part of public health, but also nursing in clinical disciplines and the prevention of healthcare associated infections. Teaching is focused on the basics of medical microbiology - general and special; bacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology and the basics of immunology: immune system, immunity, microbiological and immunological laboratory methods, clinical immunology, immunization.
Expertise: Student knows basic terminology in the field of microbiology and immunology, demonstrates knowledge of naming and classifying infectious agents, controls the nature of effects of antimicrobial agents and the emergence of resistance, knows the function and components of the immune system, controls the nature and forms of immunization, knows the clinical manifestations of changes in the immune system. and anti-epidemic measures. Professional skills: The student is able to read and interpret specialized literature in the field of microbiology and immunology applied to nursing, can take biological material for microbiological and serological examination and transport to appropriate laboratories, is able to explain to the patient the correct way to use antimicrobial drugs with expert reasoning, can organize vaccination within primary infection prevention and actively engage in the implementation of anti-epidemic measures in healthcare facilities and communities, and work with public health professionals. General competences: The student is able to communicate comprehensibly to experts as soon as laics about the nature of professional problems in the field of microbiology and immunology in relation to human health and effective measures for health protection.
